Bergoglio Meets Iranian Vice President Shahindokht Molaverdi
Iranian Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi met with Pope Francis on Thursday. In the meeting, the Pope stressed the need for inter-religion cooperation and said that freedom of expression does not justify insulting religious sanctities, referring to terrorist acts carried out in the name of religion.
Molaverdi also met the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family Vincenzo Paglia on Friday.
Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, Paglia expressed happiness that such high-level meetings were being held and hoped that similar meetings will be held in the future.
He urged closer cooperation between Iran and Vatican as followers of Abrahamic religions to join hands in tackling problems related to women and the family in the present-day world.
The Iranian official, in turn, stated that the sides held expert talks on medical, legal, and sociological issues related to women and the family, as well as the topics of marriage and domestic violence against children and women.
