Bergoglio has been ordered to eat less pasta after appearing to pile on the pounds after he became the head of the Roman Catholic Church…
(Express) – The 78-year-old looks to have gained weight over the past two years which Vatican doctors say is down to too much spaghetti and not enough exercise.
Vatican doctors have now ordered the Pope to be more “disciplined” to counter his weight gain, which is reportedly aggravating his chronic back problems. In order to keep up with his busy schedule as leader to 1.2 billion Catholics, Pope Francis has been advised to go on regular walks.
The Argentinian has also been told to eat pasta no more than two times a week. This is not the first time the Pope’s expanding waist-line has hit the headlines. When it was announced that he would cancel a series of appearances and events in July last year, many questioned health concerns due to his weight gain.

And the pontiff isn’t just a fan of pasta, in a wide-ranging interview to mark two years as Pope he revealed his love of pizza too. The Argentine leader of the Catholic Church told a Mexican television channel: “The only thing I would like is to go out one day, without being recognised and go to a pizzeria for a pizza.” But, with only one fully functioning lung, the 266th pontiff continues to flourish under enormous amounts of pressure since becoming Pope in 2013. He has visited Lampedusa, the mafia heartland of Calabria and last month, the city of Naples. The Pope’s international trips have also taken him to Israel, Brazil, Jordan, Turkey and the West Bank Albania.
He is also scheduled to visit the United States at the end of this year.
